Kauai Golf Courses

Kauai, which is known to be Hawaii's Island of Discovery, is a tropical paradise amidst the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. This friendly garden island paradise is the northernmost of the main Hawaiian Islands and is home to the legendary aloha spirit. Kauai is also home to some of the finest golf in the world.

On Kauai, the courses are crafted by nature, and water views are often your biggest obstacle. The famed Prince Course at Princeville Resort, one of the most beautiful in the world, features a waterfall emanating from an ancient lava tube. Kauai Lagoons’ Kiele Course hugs the seaside cliffs, while bobbing sea turtle sightings are common when you play along the oceanfront holes at Poipu Bay Resort. Other captivating challenges include Kauai Lagoons’ Mokihana Course and the picture-perfect 27-holes at Princeville’s Makai Course.

  • Kauai Lagoons Golf Club Kauai Lagoons Resort is home to two award winning Jack Nicklaus designed golf courses. The dramatic Kiele Course(key-ay-lay) weaves along imposing ocean cliffs, lush valleys, and among 40 acres of fresh water lagoons. Kiele's layout rewards players who can hit the ball high in order to carry the assorted drainage creeks, ravines, and lagoons along the way, as well as reach a couple of island greens that finish this challenging course. Its spectacular ocean holes do their best to distract even the most disciplined of players. Its companion, the Mokihana Course (mow-key-ha-nah) is a Scottish style links course that features open fairways and well-guarded, small undulating greens. Mokihana is a softer, gentler course - yet it is still a strong course. The bunkers are less severe, the water a bit more out of play, and the slopes are softer.

  • Princeville Resort Golf Architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. said it perfectly in describing the golf courses of Princeville Resort, "In all the world, I never expect to find a more spectacularly beautiful place to build a golf course than Princeville, overlooking Hanalei Bay." Princeville's Prince and Makai Courses are consistently listed in Golf Digest's "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses." The Prince Course is one of Hawaii's most challenging golf courses, with a USGA course rating of 75.3 and slope of 145. But fear not, five different tees on each hole allow you to set your own challenge. Looking as if it has emerged full-blown from nature, the Prince Course chugs uphill, jumps ravines, and careens downhill like a roller-coaster. The Makai is really three course in one: the Ocean Nine ventures closest to the Pacific, the Lakes Nine winds it way around serene lakes, and the Woods Nine is a pleasant diversion through native woodlands.

  • Poipu Bay Golf Club  Situated between lush mountains and rugged ocean bluffs, Poipu Bay’s ocean links-style course includes over 35 acres of tropical plants and flowers, making it one of Hawaii’s most beautiful courses. Many pleasant distractions abound: panoramic vistas tempt you to stop and get utterly lost in the scenery; protected remains of ancient Hawaiian heiau (places of worship) weave through the course; Hawaii’s native ne’ne’ geese frequent the links; and in winter months, humpback whales spout offshore.
