Gallup Poll Reports Hawaii as Top Dream
Destination for Americans

dream vacation, Americans chose Hawaii over all
other destinations worldwide, according to a recent

percent (17%) of the nationally representative
sample said they would travel to Hawaii if money
were no object, ranking the Islands of Aloha above
Europe (11%) and Australia (6%). After Hawaii, the
next most desired domestic destination was

PASSPORTS REQUIRED TO ENTER THE UNITED STATES |
 |
Did you know that by 2007, all traveling Americans
returning to the United States will be required to
have a valid U.S. Passport? It's true. And the new
rules will be phased-in as early as January 2007.
Going forward, a Passport will be required for U.S.
Citizens who travel by air and sea to and from the
Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America,
Canada and Mexico. Subsequently, Passports or
other accepted travel documents will also be required
for U.S. land border crossings to and from Canada or
Mexico. Without a Passport, you will not be able to
travel outside of the U.S. - including cruise travel. In
addition, after the implementation date, cruise
vacationers who arrive at the Port to embark on a
cruise without a valid Passport, will not be permitted
to board the ship.
Important reasons to get your Passport now:
- Avoid the rush and the possibility of not being
able to travel where and when you wish without a
passport.
- Future travel to the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central
and South America, Canada and Mexico will require a
passport to re-enter the U.S.
- A Passport can open the doors to travel you may
not have considered before, such as cruising in
Europe, Australia and Asia. And a Passport will also
be required to visit our neighbor countries of Canada
and Mexico.
- Considering that a Passport is valid for ten years,
the cost is minimal ($97 for a new Passport and $67
for a renewal). If you take two vacations per year,
the initial cost of your passport per vacation is less
than a frozen drink with an umbrella at the pool.
- Even with a confirmed booking for travel abroad,
you will be denied boarding if you do not possess a
valid Passport.
For more information about applying for a Passport,
U.S. Citizens may visit www.travel.state.gov/passport/passpor
t_1738.html or call the National Passport
Information Center toll free at 1-877-487-2778 or
TDD/TYY: 1-888-874-7793. Foreign Nationals should
contact their respective governments to obtain
details regarding current Passports requirements and
application procedures.

INTERNATIONAL EXPEDITIONS |
 |
International Expeditions: Chronicles of a
Pantanal Journey
The Pantanal is a “holy grail” destination for people
who love wildlife. Located in a remote region of
southwestern Brazil, this region is a wilderness of
pristine wetlands, tranquil rivers and lakes, lush
gallery forests, and expansive savannahs punctuated
by tropical palms. The wildlife is so abundant and so
easily seen that we often refer to the Pantanal as
our “South American safari.”
On your International Expeditions journey you are apt
to see giant anteaters, marsh deer, giant river
otters, tapirs, and perhaps the elusive jaguar, which
still roams these savannahs. Toco toucans, greater
rheas, jabiru storks and more than a dozen species of
colorful parrots, including the endangered hyacinth
macaw, are on the list of spectacular birds you’re apt
to find. To see a pair of hyacinth macaws or a flock
of ibis against a blazing sun is something that stands
out in your mind for a long time.
While the Pantanal alone is worth a trip to Brazil, we
also explore Iguazú Falls, one of the most impressive
waterfalls in the world, with extraordinary views of
its cascades from every bend of the trail. This World
Heritage Site also protects an astounding diversity of
tropical wildlife: red-breasted toucans, capuchin
monkeys, colorful tanagers and tropical butterflies,
among many other creatures.
We’ve included a helicopter flightseeing excursion at
Iguazú at no additional cost, to give you even more
ways to explore — just another reason why you must
visit one of the world’s great destinations.
From the day you arrive, you will feel right at home.
Our guides are passionate about the region and they
know a great deal about it. They combine their
knowledge and enthusiasm with a warmth you’re sure
to enjoy. You’ll also travel with a highly skilled IE
Expedition Leader (who is also a naturalist), who will
look after you every step of the way.

HOW TO PACK |
 |
How to Pack When You Are Traveling for
Business
It's easy to overpack. These tips will help you take
only what you need.
According to legend, Mark Twain said, "I would
have written less, but I didn't have time."
By the same token, consider taking time to pack
less: Underpacking may be problematic when you are
searching for that much needed pair of socks, but
overpacking can create its own obstacles, too.
Here's how to ensure you take only what you need:
- Lists, lists, lists. Don't just make one list
of what
to bring; make several. The first list is your schedule.
Block out the dates you'll be flying, the dates and
times (and occasions) of your meetings, and when
you expect to have free time. Then jot down what
you'll wear each day, along with the tools and
technology you'll need. Remember, even though you
ought to have a toiletry case always ready to go
with the personal items you'll want, checking it
against a list ensures you won't be running low on an
item like toothpaste.
- Lug not what you can ship. More
business
travelers are taking advantage of the fact that it has
become easier to ship things to and from a hotel.
(Business centers usually stock UPS and FedEx
boxes). Smart travelers figure, "Why lug through the
airport, on the plane, and in the cab stuff I could
have sent ahead?" Consider shipping those items
you're only going to need at your destination.
Whatever you don't have to take on the plane makes
life easier all around. Carry only your essentials.
- Check the forecast. Before you stuff the
first
rolled pair of socks in the shoes you pack (which, by
the way, is a great way to save suitcase space),
check the long-range forecast to see what the
weather has in store. Planning to dress in layers is
one way to keep your baggage bulk down and still be
prepared when the forecast proves wrong.
- Just the basics. So where do you draw
the line
on what gets packed and what doesn't? Top of the
list of must-packs is any medication you might need.
Since traveling means walking, consider packing a
business shoe that's also a good walking shoe; or,
you may decide to bring an informal shoe that does
double-duty in the gym and when you're off the
clock. If you're going to work out, of course you
need gym clothes. Think about selecting outfits so
they are interchangeable within a basic color
scheme. Choose casual clothes carefully. If you pack
smart, you'll have room to tuck in a few snacks,
which are great not only on the plane but to help
avoid the temptation of the overpriced goodies in the
minibar. I also like to make room for a tiny collapsible
umbrella in an outer pocket of a carry-on.
- Likely leave-behinds. Yes, the tennis
courts at
the four-star hotel is said to be better than any
you've known. But consider whether it's realistic
you'll have time for a match before packing your
tennis racket (and giving up precious luggage space).
On other items, make choices: sunscreen and
sunglasses instead of a hat? One of the easiest ways
to go overboard is to bring more gadgets than you
really need. Yes, pack a global phone if your own cell
isn't enabled for international dialing; and don't forget
the overseas converters for your phone, PDA, and
laptop chargers. But consider items that'll do double-
duty, like a USB cord than lets you tap into power
from your laptop to charge your cellphone or digital
camera. And you can lose those luggage locks
because -- unless they're TSA-approved -- they
cannot be used going through airport security.
- Force of habit. A few simple tricks can
keep your
trip on track and slimmed down, particularly if those
tricks become habit-forming. I've learned the hard
way that I'll invariably misplace things, even when
I've packed them, unless I pack them in the same
place. A regular strategy for packing will prevent you
from over-stuffing your suitcase each time.

TAHITI AND HER ISLANDS |
 |
Tahiti and Her Islands are what you've always
imagined the South Seas to be - an idyllic getaway
from the stress of the modern world, resembling
heaven more than earth. The palm-fringed beaches
of Bora Bora are the perfect launch into the striking
coral reefs, abundant with colorful marine life.
Moorea's deep and spectacular bays are surrounded
by green-covered mountains that rise from the
bottom of the sea, and the panorama from Belvedere
Lookout is breathtaking. Tahiti, the largest island, is
for the person who wants to try a little of everything
that the modern and natural worlds have to offer.
On all the islands, you can spend endless days
snorkeling and diving, or swimming side-by-side with
turtles and manta rays. Feel the cooling breeze in
your hair as you parasail or jet ski. Check out the
local markets for original art, pearls and wooden
carvings. Sample fine dining with influences from
France and the South Pacific, and stay in
accommodations ranging from exquisite beachside
resorts to intimate bungalows. No matter which
island you visit, you'll find the same untouched
environment that inspired the great paintings of
Gauguin, and countless others.
Tahiti:
The beautiful island of Tahiti, encircled by black sand
beaches and a crown of steep majestic peaks, is the
largest and most diverse of the Polynesian islands.
Some aspects of Tahiti are quite modern, such as its
unique entertainment events, animated nightlife and
museums. There is a tremendous range of hotels and
fine international cuisines available to guests of all
tastes. Papeete is the capital and reveals its own
special surprises like its colorful public market, its
world-class boutiques and spas, and its month-long
Heiva festival of Tahitian folklore, music and dancing.
Your options in Tahiti are as broad as your
imagination, whether it is natural, nautical or cultural.
Bora Bora:
For many people, the name Bora Bora brings thoughts
of jumping off life’s treadmill and moving to an island
paradise. In fact, the romantic and the world-weary
have sought out this magical island for decades. Bora
Bora is entirely surrounded by a world-famous lagoon,
colored a light shade of blue so striking that it
resembles something outside of nature. The lagoon's
overwater bungalows give the expression 'close to
nature' literal meaning, as guests can almost literally
roll out of bed into a refreshing swim or any other
watersport. All this is situated under the watchful
eyes of Mt. Pahia and Mt. Otemanu – two green
peaks that rise like exotic island gods, just waiting to
be hiked and explored.
Taha'a:
Taha'a is known as the Vanilla Island because the air
is filled with the strong aroma of the beans from its
many vanilla plantations. Many visitors take a strong
interest in the island's other major export by visiting
one of its many pearl farms, whose product is
legendary for its superb quality, visual appeal and
value. The Taha'a lagoon is a giant natural aquarium
of colorful fish and enchanting coral gardens where
you can feed rays and swim with dolphins, or perhaps
cruise in a canoe or catamaran. If it's absolute
seclusion you seek, explore one of the many tiny
islets called motu - often the perfect spot to picnic
under a coconut tree, snorkel around the island or
relax with a book.
Moorea:
Moorea has always been the choice of painters and
writers, soaring out of the ocean in an explosion of
green velvet pinnacles. A wide, shallow lagoon
surrounds the mountains where threads of waterfalls
tumble down fern-softened cliffs. Moorea is circled
with simple pastel-painted villages, surrounded by
hibiscus gardens and exotic birds. Eco-tours are a
popular way to take in natural wonders such as
these, and other pursuits like whale watching and
hiking the legendary Opunohu and Cook Bays. For
those less adventurous, Moorea's white sand
beaches and golf course are nice, laid-back
alternatives.
SOUTH PACIFIC SPECIALS
Fun Fact: In Tahiti, it’s common for women
to walk
around with a fragrant white blossom called tiare, the
island’s national flower, behind one’s ear. However,
the placement of the tiare is very telling, so couples
take note. Placing the flower on the left side means
you are taken, and the right side means you are
available.
